Tank Water Heaters

“Tank Water Heaters”

Blog_Tank_Heaters

Most homes today still have a tank water heater. Your tank water heater is simply of boiling pot of water connected to your water system and ready to be used in the house. You may have a 30gal, 40gal, 50gal, 60gal, 75gal or 100 gallon water heater. The size of your water heater depends on the size of your home and family.

There are three drawbacks to a tank water heater. One is that it can run out of hot water. Two is that it is always heating up the water in the tank even if nobody is using hot water in the house. And three is that it takes up a lot of space. Gas heaters are governed by a “Low Nox” law (Nitrous Oxide gas emissions). This is simply an efficiency standard for the green house gas emissions from the heaters. As long as you have a knowledgeable plumber you shouldn’t have to worry about all this technical information.

There are rules for the installation of a water heater. Let me summarize the overview of these codes. An up to code water heater will be installed with safety in mind including the following: 1. earthquake straps 2. T&P valve with drain exiting to a visible area 3. Smithy pan exiting to a visible area 4. double wall venting exiting through the roof OPTIONAL FEATURES 5. Expansion tanks prolong the life of your heater.

According to manufacturers of water heaters it is always recommended that you use an expansion tank. There is a thing called thermal expansion. Thermal expansion is the expansion of water when it is heated. When water heats and then cools you have expansion that happens inside the water lines followed by contraction. Throughout the day this happens many times as you use your hot water in the house. An expansion tank will absorb the expansion and contraction so your water heater doesn’t have to. In addition to prolonging the life of your heater it will also prevent your water heater from blowing up in an extreme case.

Restaurant Drains – Service with a Smile

Restaurant drain1Restaurant drain2

This customer owns a restaurant and today was unable to clear his own area drain. When we got there we ran our 1/4″ and 3/8″ rooter cables in an attempt to clear the drain. If we can’t do it there must be something seriously wrong.

As you can see from this second picture there wasn’t much left of that p-trap. We were able to get him up and running before the next day at 6am. Your business is important, you have to make money. We’ll get you up and running. Angel Plumbers serves restaurants all over Los Angeles.

Hydrojetting service is something you will definitely need to consider as a restaurant owner. Keep us in mind.

Plumbing Inspection – Get It Done Right

One of our regular customers called us and shared with us that his building is going through the process of a possible sale. The bank in this case had hired their own plumbing inspector that had come out and pointed out the strapping on four storage tanks.

Our process of helping out our good customer started by meeting with the city and asking for plumbing records. We ended up meeting with the city plumbing inspector and agreed on the proper strapping of these storage tanks standing alone in the middle of a cement slab.

Here in Los Angeles Angel Plumbers are known for doing things the right way. When in question we go to the source. Thank God we have a good relationship with the inspectors and our name is a good name. The strapping of the storage tanks was completed and our customer will have no problems finishing their process thanks to the resourcefulness of our team.

Sometimes it’s not what you know, but who you know!

Sewer Location – Picture Yourself Happier

Today we worked with one of our favorite customers. In the construction of a new restaurant, the existing infrastructure of the sewer system needed to be located. We used our state of the art camera and location equipment to locate the existing sewer. We located the sewer and also gave our customer indication to where to make new tie-ins for future fixtures. We were also able to give him our input as to where to run the new extended sewer system.

Just another day in the life of a professional plumber at Angel Plumbers!

Los Angeles – Hydrojetting Storm Drains

Storm drains are a lot harder to clear than sewer lines. Just think about this; the storm drain doesn’t really flow unless it rains or unless you water the area it’s assigned to. The dirt and debris have plenty of time to build-up and collect. By the time it’s time to flow when you need it most the debris all piles up and starts compacting itself with dirt and water. Many times snaking it will work but more times than not the only way to clear the storm drains is with the Hydrojetter.

Today we worked on one that really needed some extra help. As you can see from the picture there are bottles coming out of it.

Northridge – Going Trenchless Sewer

Trenchless Sewer 1  Trenchless Sewer 2

Trenchless Sewer Replacement

Right about now you’re probably asking yourself –“What do you mean trenchless? Both of those pictures show a hole in the ground.” –Point taken..

The technology is known as trenchless because in the past the sewers had to be dug out from beginning to end. Today we only have to open one hole at the beginning and/or one hole at the end. We don’t have to trench the entire yard anymore. This happy Northridge customer had their 40ft of sewer replaced with only two holes on the ground. The replacement was made using Pipe bursting instead of pipe lining. I’ll be talking about the difference in the Sewer section of this site. For now just call our office and ask to speak to Ricardo for any sewer questions.

Copper or PEX – Choose Your Re-piping

PEX Re-piping Is The Better Choice Today

spinning logo

This customer called us on the Easter Holiday weekend. Since we are available 24 hours a day including weekends and holidays we were happy to come see him. This couple had a slab leak under their kitchen cabinet. Our services for him included slab leak detection.

After much thought and going back and forth with the insurance company the decision was made to simply re-pipe the house. The better choice in the city of Oxnard is PEX piping. The house was re-piped with PEX and some sections of copper where needed. We build a custom tiled fixture on the back side of the house to easily bath the dogs with warm water outside the house.

From his own words: “I’ll tell everyone about you guys”

Thank you, more people need to know about Angel Plumbers Inc. 🙂

What is PEX?

Blog_Pex_Piping

What the heck is PEX?

Commercial PlumberPEX (or crosslinked polyethylene) is a water supply piping system that has several advantages over metal pipe (copper or iron) or rigid plastic pipe (PVC, CPVC) systems. Pex piping is flexible and can be faster to install than metal or rigid plastic, and has fewer connections and fittings.

Why choose PEX?

  • Used Safely for over 40 years
  • Effectively replaces copper in many applications
  • Does not corrode or develop pinhole leaks
  • More resistant to scale and chlorine
  • Water flows more quietly than copper
  • Conserves Energy because it does not transfer heat as readily as copper
  • Less Expensive and More Convenient than most copper repiping

With all the benefits that PEX piping brings to your plumbing projects, PEX may soon become the new norm.
