Here in Southern California we live in Earthquake country. By code, all buildings are supposed to have automatic shut off valves that are triggered by an earthquake.

This customer in West Hollywood was selling this 16-unit building and their inspection requested that their gas system be updated to code to include the EQ valves. We installed 17 valves for them. During the process we had to gain access to all units in order to turn on pilot lights for wall heaters. Strapping is very important for an EQ valve so all valves had individual straps to meet code requirements.

We highly recommend that you look at your gas meter and see if you have one of these valves. In the event of an earthquake your may end up with a gas leak. In all the commotion you may not think about shutting your gas main down. The results could be worst than what the earthquake might do. Don’t risk it!
