Septic systems repair or replacement

If you are here it’s because you are trying to better understand your septic tank system. When you flush your toilet the pipes first carry the discharged water into a tank called the septic tank. This tank is usually located in the backyard. In this tank the solids are separated from the liquids. The liquids continue to flow into a dispersing system that allows the liquid to be absorbed into the earth. In theory your system should be able to work indefinitely until you saturate the soil and it can no longer absorb any more liquids.

What can make your Septic System Fail?

Grease is the biggest enemy of a septic system. Grease will reach the septic tank and rise to the top of the water. The grease will eventually even block the inlet pipe causing a stoppage. Worst, it will prevent the natural bacteria to grow inside the tank that keep a disintegration of the solids from occuring.

The second biggest enemy of a septic system is bleach and/or antibacterial soaps and cleaners. The purpose of the septic tank is to collect the solids and disintegrate them by natural bacteria that grows in a perfectly balanced system. When you kill these bacteria with household cleaners you are in danger of overflowing your system with solids.

Recommendations for keeping a healthy Septic System.

All hardware stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Do-it-Best, Anawalt, etc. sell septic tank treatments. These liquids or grains are designed to build bacteria and help dissolve papers and grease. A regular treatment of your septic tank with these products will keep you from spending a lot of money in the end.
